Overview

An 8.5 mile circular route from Puddletown through Puddletown Forest (Hardy’s Egdon Heath) to Lower Bockhampton, returning via Kingston Maurward and Higher Bockhampton.

We will take coffee at the Rainbarrows and walk a well-preserved section of the major Roman road from London to Exeter.

It is a gently undulating walk with one steepish (but short) climb. We will be walking along tracks in the Forest and on tracks, lanes and paths over farmland. Only 3 stiles!

Puddletown Recreation Ground Car Park. Puddletown is just of the A35 just north-east of Dorchester. Leave (or cross) the A35 at the A354 Blandford Junction and drive into the town, passing the Blue Vinny pub on your right. At the traffic lights turn right on Dorchester Road for 300m, passing the school on your left. The entrance to the Recreation Ground Car Park is on your right with a small ‘arrow’ sign on your left that is easily missed. If you get to the large lay-by on your right, you’ve gone too far!
