Overview

There are 3 choices

1. Full walk is 10 miles and starts at 10am

2. First loop is 5 miles and starts at 10am and ends approx 12.40 for lunch at The Whaley Bridge basin

3. Second loop will start at 1pm from Whaley Bridge basin.

Starting from the car park. The first loop of 5 miles will go steadily but not steeply uphill past Todd brook reservoir to Taxal. Along Taxal ridge to Taxal Nick and then drop down via St James Church Taxal ( where there are toilets available) Before returning to the canal basin via The Memorial Park for a lunch stop. We will return to Tom Brad Car Park, for those wishing to leave the walk or join the second loop of the walk.

The second loop will follow the track bed of the defunct Cromford and High peak railway, along Shall cross Greenway passing the Shall Cross itself on the way to The shady Oak Pub at Fernilee. Here we will cross the main road and descend to The River Goyt, turning right along its bank to follow the Goyt Valley back to the car park.

We will finish at The Goyt Inn for an optional drink at the end of the walk.
