Starting from the National Trust carpark at Wilderhope Manor we walk along the ancient limestone escarpment of Stanway Coppice. This is an excellent spot to see ancient sea life fossils. (Stanway Coppice 270m, SO548928) and views across onto Wenlock Edge and the Lawley. Stunning views of Wilderhope Manor and Hope Valley are available from the coppice as well as distant views of both Brown and Titterstone Clee Hill.
We briefly join the Shropshire Way before climbing up to Wenlock Edge along the Jack Mytton Way and then returning along Wenlock Edge to Wilderhope, through woodland and open farmland.
This walk offers fine views of the Shropshire Hills and the opportunity to visit a 16th Century manor house (open 14:00-16:00 on Sunday 23/3/25).
Parking at the NT Wilderhope Manor carpark, parking is restricted so prior booking required for walk and car sharing is encouraged.
Wilderhope Manor is open from 14:00-16:00, NT fees apply for non-members.
Toilets available at start/finish.
Refreshments may possibly be available at the NT cafe at the end of the walk, these facilities are seasonal and somewhat sporadic, so cannot be guaranteed.
