How to get there
The walk starts at Wolsingham Train station at 10.30 , as this location offers free parking. To find the station follow the sign post pointing to Hamsterley which is just 5 mins along from the centre of Wolsingham. Follow the road over the small bridge then take a sharp left, sign posted for station. There will be a caravan site on your left and a large house on the right before you reach the station car park.
The walk is moderate walk of 6.0 miles, which offers some beautiful vistas of the surrounding countryside. There are 14 stiles to manoeuvre; around half of the stiles however do have adjoining gates to walk through so you don’t have to get over half of the stiles.
The walk starts at Wolsingham train station . We make our way back to the centre of Wolsingham then we follow foot paths leading outside of the village and down towards the banks of the river Wear.
After following the river for some time the walk crosses a railway line and we make our way through a country lane to Bradley Burn Farm /cafe/caravan site. The first part of the walk is mostly flat.
We may stop here for lunch dependent on timings . There are toilet facilities here.
The walk then moves us through to the side of the caravan park and it‘s here we begin a moderate hill/bank incline to progress upwards into the hillside around Wolsingham. The incline is in two sections and takes around 15 minutes to progress.
The walk continues down a quiet country road and we then we make our way back up a short bank. We then cross a number of fields as we descend down into Wolsingham .
As we are crossing through some fields I would recommend sticks & gaiters dependent on the weather.
