C WALK DESCRIPTION: 7 miles. 1000 ft ascent. A circular walk starting and finishing at Bishop’s Castle, a medieval Shropshire town. The morning is steadily undulating followed by gradual descent in the afternoon and a minor climb back to Bishop’s Castle. The route frequently offers the chance to see stunning views of the Shropshire hills and a delightful woodland walk through The Dingle near the end. The walk begins northwards uphill through the town passing the remains of the castle. The route opens up through fields towards The Wintles. At Bankshead we head west on a lane before taking a break in a meadow . The route south follows a lane for a short distance before we join The Shropshire Way eastwards on field paths and take our second break. Field paths take us back to Bishop’s Castle where we can stop at pubs, cafes, time permitting, before a short walk back to the coach.
BOOKING ESSENTIAL, please use the link above for our booking page. Coach fare £5, payable cash/cheque or in advance by bank transfer.
The Birmingham Ramblers recently bid for, and won, a grant from the Inclusive Communities Fund which is part of the legacy of the Commonwealth Games. This grant is specifically to assist with coach transport to encourage new people to join the Sunday walks and start walking in country areas.
We will be using this fund to subsidise coach-based walks, such as this one, in areas which offer opportunities to new inexperienced walkers as well as challenges to regular walkers under the banner Keep Fit for a Fiver. As this suggests, we are reducing the coach fare for this and some other selected walks to £5 for all, be they regular walkers or new faces.
