A 7.5 mile linear walk from Ascot to Sunningdale, via fairly flat parkland, polo fields and footpaths through part of Wentworth Golf Club.
BOOKING via Meetup is required as spaces are LIMITED - 25 spaces (including the walk leader)
Pace: gentle / easy
We'll meet outside Ascot station (car park side) and make our way first through South Ascot parkland, before turning north out of town and towards the village of Sunninghill. Here, we can take a quick look at St Michael’s and All Angels, a Grade II listed church (if there's no event going on there we can take a look inside).
We’ll then continue through a section of Silkwood Park and woods followed by a very short stretch of woodland path at the edge of Windsor Great Park.
Our route continues through the expansive Coworth Park, home to large polo fields and a plush wedding venue, where we’ll stop for lunch.
From here we’ll skirt the edge of the (publicly accessible) landscaped woods and carefully trimmed greens of Wentworth Golf Club, from which the centre of Sunningdale is a short walk away.
At the end of the walk you can join us for a drink at the pub, or catch the train home. Trains head back towards Ascot (a single stop) and Reading every half hour.
Travel by public transport: Please take the 10:09 service from Reading, arriving 10:39. The walk leader will be on this train, so if the train is delayed the walk will be too.
Parking: Ascot station has a car park which is open to non train travellers as far as I can see. As of late 2024 parking on a Saturday for the rough duration of the walk (four hours maximum) should cost £4.90.
Dogs are allowed, provided they are kept on a lead at all times.
Please wear strong trail shoes or walking boots as the paths may be muddy. Please bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink.
Thanks to Kathy and Ann for originally leading this walk for the Berkshire Weekend Walkers.
