Overview

After climbing a rocky path to the Church of St Elli the route ascends gently mainly across open fields to Waun Watkin. After contouring along the lane of the Hafod for about a mile we reach the curious broad rock column of Tom Thumb from which there are impressive views of the Clydach Gorge. Descent to the River Clydach is followed by a delightful wooded riverside path back to the canal and starting point at Gilwern.
