The walk links an attractive country park based on a former canals network, Daisy Nook, with a fascinating industrial settlement called Park Bridge Heritage Centre. Varied landscape including canals, river Medlock and woods plus wildlife interest.
Daisy Nook, originally Waterhouses, is centred on the disused Hollinwood branch canal (1797). Several sections of the old canal are now wildlife habitats for breeding ducks, moorhens and herons.
Park Bridge is the site of a former ironworks founded by Samuel Lees in 1786 and expanded after his death by his wife Hannah. Workers cottages still exist in the area ( see photos). An interesting fact is that rivets in the Eiffel tower and the Titanic were made here.
