Today’s walk is an adaptation of an earlier walk that I led back in in April 2024, of which the details of it can be found here. In a repeat of this walk, we’ll be walking along the full length of the Regents Canal from Paddington station right through to the Limehouse Basin.
Starting at Paddington, we’ll start off by walking towards the old Grand Junction Canal at Little Venice, which is only a short distance along the Paddington Basin from the station and is where we join the Regents Canal. After passing the Maida Hill and Lisson Grove tunnels, we’ll turn away from the canal just before passing ZSL London Zoo to walk up the nearby Primrose Hill. From there, we’ll continue towards Camden Market, where we’ll rejoin the Canal, which then continues towards the King’s Cross development, at which it makes a sharp turn at Camley Street Park to head towards St Pancras International and King’s Cross stations. The canal then opens out into Battlebridge Basin, which was originally known as Horsfall Basin and is now home to the London Canal Museum, and we’ll continue along it towards the Islington tunnel. After walking past it via Angel station, we’ll pass the southern end of Broadway Market and head towards Victoria Park, where we’ll make another diversion away from the canal. We’ll then make our way back to the Regents Canal along the Hertford Union Canal, where we’ll then head southwards to walk past Mile End Park before eventually arriving at the Limehouse Basin.
As this walk’s fully on paved paths and pavements, it’s recommended that you wear comfortable footwear to fully enjoy this walk. Like with last time, there’ll be the option to bring lunch, but we’ll be stopping in Camden Market for lunch with its wide range of food stalls and restaurants to choose from. Also like with last time, we’ll be stopping at The Craft Beer Co. Limehouse for those who want a pint at the end of the walk, which is directly opposite the entrance to Limehouse station.
TRAINS:
The recommended train to get is the 10:30 GWR service that arrives at Paddington at 10:56. Due to the size of Paddington, the walk leader will be waiting at the Praed Street entrance next to WH Smith.
DRIVING:
Due to the cost of ULEZ and parking in London, it's strongly recommended that you don't drive into central London. Alternatively, you can park at the car park next to Reading station, where parking fees apply.
