We try not to repeat the same walks regularly, but this 11-mile cracker is definitely too good not to slip into the programme at least once during the year. Anyway it is one of the walk leaders favourite Kentish hikes, so you will realise there is a climb or two, and of course the obligatory pub en route!
The highlights of this wonderful yomp are the stretches along the North Downs Way, where the route heads along the crest of the ridge, giving us extensive views over the countryside. The lesser known paths are also enjoyable and offer the chance to explore woodland and field paths, whilst we also visit the remote church at Hastingleigh set neatly in the valley.
On leaving the the car park on Stone Street, we head towards Skeete then along to Hemsted and into West Wood, before crossing the busy road to the small hamlet of Lymbridge Green. From there we make our way to Whatsole Street, before our lunch stop at Hastingleigh church.
From the church we soon join the North Downs Way National Trail, which we follow past Coombe Farm Trig Point and into Stowting and drinks stop at the Tiger.
There are many climbs on the route but the stiffest comes in the latter stages, when we ascend Cobbs Hill. There will no doubt be much heavy breathing as we head uphill, however it is worth the effort though, as the views are great at the top, we then return to the car park to finish.
