This walk is my annual garlic walk. So named as we walk along a path for about a kilometer, that has growing on both sides a profusion of wild garlic plants. The plants give off a distinctive fragrance of garlic. The plant is also known as Ransoms, and its latin name is Allium ursinum. It will be possible to collect some of the leaves to use in your home cooking.
After the garlic we walk across Selborne Common to arrive in the village of Selborne where we will have lunch. Then back to Hawkley via Noar Hill and Empshot Green.
Lots of woodland and pasture.
Bring a picnic lunch which we can have sitting by the church in Selborne. There is a pub and cafe in Selborne, but there won't be time to have a meal in the pub, only a drink. There are public toilets in Selborne. At the end of the walk there will be time to have a drink at the Hawkley Inn.
