Overview

From the car park, we head down to the River Goyt and follow the valley to Fernilee Reservoir and Erwood Reservoir. From here, head to Goytclough Quarry then it’s a steady climb (moderate/strenuous) to the top of Shining Tor. Nothing shining on the Tor for the recce as it was in the clouds. From the trig point at the summit, head along the ridge to Pym Chair, then on to Windgather Rocks before going over Taxal Moor and dropping down to the car park.

The route: Lay-by on A5004 - Shallcross Wood - Madscar Farm - Oldfield - Fernlee Reservoir - Erwood Reservoir - Goytsclough Quarry - Shining Tor - along the Tors to Pym Chair - Windgather Rocks - Clough Farm - Taxal Moor - Taxal - return to the car park.

This is a moderate/strenuous walk on a mixture of tracks, paths, roads and bridleways which were mostly dry underfoot.

Poles recommended.

No dogs due to livestock in fields.

Bring lunch, snacks and drinks.
