From Goytre Wharf the route ascends across field to join a tree lined path. After a shortish walk along the path the route follows a winding path up hill to Pant-ysgawn. This is the longest ascent before the route follows a tree lined path past Coed Peggy-Peggy-Shams and eventually a gradual ascent onto the open hillside. The total distance to reach this point is about 4Km. The route then gradually descends eventually meeting the Folly. From here there is a short descent and the route follows the canal and fields to the start.
The route is graded as strenuous since that is the only applicable Ramblers grade available but I think it lies somewhere between Moderate and Strenuous. I would advise the use of walking poles for some sections and gaiters depending on the weather. The fee for parking at the wharf is £2 as of April.
There are toilets and a cafe at the visitor centre.
