The walk is about 3 miles and up to 3 hours, as we have an expert guide, Jonathan, who will conduct the walk, describing the military history of some of the key air base installations. It includes visiting the following:
• WW2 Memorials – commemorates two accidents in December 1944
• Old runway – the original tarmac at the taxiway crossover point
• Area around 501st Tactical Missile Wing HQ
• Fire plane used for fire training
• Ground Launched Cruise Missile Alert and Maintenance Area (outside only)
• The Blue Gate of the Womens' Peace Camp.
Join me at the cafe after the walk for refreshments.
There is no booking requirement and numbers are unlimited. When this guided walk is put on for the public the charge is £5.80 per person, which supports the control tower, and I suggest that we each make a donation of a similar amount. This is payable in cash to one of the boxes in the tower or you can make a contactless donation.
