A urban, river and country park linear walk with a bit of history, taking in Stockport’s surrounding green and lush countryside along the River Tame.
The walk is mainly flat with short ascents and descents.
Suitable footwear for walking, with a good sole, is required as some of the paths are uneven and may be muddy in parts. No sandals or Crocs please.
Train-based walk
Leader: Mary, meeting at Walk Start
Ascent: 150 metres
Transport to Walk Start: 11:49 train from Manchester Piccadilly station (final destination Buxton).
Meet Point: Near the ticket barriers at Piccadilly Station. Alternatively, meet the group on the train or at Heaton Chapel Station. Walk Leader will meet the group at the walk’s start, outside Heaton Chapel train station's entrance to the ticket office on Heaton Moor Road.
Suggested Ticket: Off Peak Day Return to Stockport £5.30. (At time of writing, a limited number of advance single tickets were available for £2 each way).
Walk Start: Heaton Chapel Train Station at 12:10.
Waypoints: Black Brook Path, The Meadow, Highfield Country Park, Marbury Road Park, Houldsworth Park, Reddish Green, Reddish Vale Country Park, Midshires Way, Trans Pennine Trail, Stockport Market.
Return Services: From Stockport: Every few minutes
Extra: No toilets at Walk Start. Toilets may be available/open at the lunch break in Reddish Vale Country Park. Optional post-walk drinks in Stockport town centre.
