A lovely Springtime walk through the woods at West Stoke, which hopefully will be full of glorious bluebells. Next, a brief visit to some of the magnificent yew trees at the base of Kingley Vale, which vary in age from 500 years up to 2,000 years. The coffee stop will be at the nearby bird hide before the onwards climb up to the top of Kingley Vale. The three tumuli at the top give fantastic views across Chichester towards the sea on a clear day, offering the perfect spot for a lunch stop. After lunch, there is a continuous descent (again with glorious views, including Chichester Cathedral) down to the outskirts of West Stoke. Continuing through the village, there are adorable alpacas in a field by the edge of the road. The walk ends at the car park, which is located on the far side of the village.
During the walk, be aware that this area boasts a number of notable birds, such as green woodpeckers, red kites and buzzard. Bring a picnic.
This walk is on varied terrain, some of which is steep and slippy, if wet. There are also a number of potholes on some of the paths so strong walking boots and walking sticks are advised. No dogs.
(Please note the cafe/shop previously at West Stoke (Design Vintage) has moved away to new premises elsewhere.)
