Train based walk

Meet Point: Near the ticket barriers, or on the platform at Piccadilly Station. Alternatively, meet the group on the train, or at the Walk Start at Macclesfield station.
Transport to Walk Start: 09:03 train from Manchester Piccadilly station (final destination
Bristol Temple Meads).
Suggested Ticket: A GM Wayfarer ticket (£16.90) will cover all travel modes from anywhere
inside Greater Manchester to both Macclesfield and Wilmslow, but, depending on where you
are coming from, it may be cheaper to get two singles.
Walk Start: Macclesfield Railway Station car park at 09:30
Waypoints: The Middlewood Way, Summerlea Close, Macclesfield Riverside Park, Prestbury, Spittle House, Woodend Farm, Legh Hall, the North Cheshire Way via Daniel Hill, Edge House Farm, the Armada Beacon, Wizards Well, Squirrels Jump, Moss Lane, Hayes Lane, the North Cheshire Way
Return Services: 4-5 trains per hour back to Piccadilly until late.
Extra: There are toilets at the walk start, but they are limited in capacity. Please go on the train, or else wait for the toilet block in Riverside Park 20 minutes in to the walk. There are no facilities from there until the walk finish. Everyone is welcome to join us for (optional) drinks afterwards, most likely at the The King William, but suggestions are welcome. Please do not bring your dog (apart from assistance dogs).:
At this time of year, you have to expect that a lot of paths on this route will be muddy, so good
walking boots are essential. There are also 10 stiles on this route, some of which are in quite
ropey condition, so that a level of fitness and confidence will be needed to cope with these,
even though the group will help you with them. There is also a fair amount of uphill involved,
although nothing really steep.
The scenery is what you would expect from Cheshire, undulating and picturesque, with the
best views from the Alderley Edge escarpment, the highest point of the walk at 200m above
sea level.
