We start by following the River Rhymney upstream to the railway viaduct. We cross the river and head out of Machen to climb across fields and moorland to the trig point at Mynydd Machen. We then descend down to the derelect Bovil farmhouse where we stop for lunch. Carrying on downhill, we again follow the river Rhymney downstream to the iron bridge where we cross the river. We then turn back towards Machen passing the edge of the village of Draethen, on through fields and playing fields until we arrive back at Machen.
