One of the most popular circuits in the National Park, the route takes in the 2 highest peaks in the park which on a fine day offer excellent views and later includes a fine escarpment walk above the Taf Fechan valley.
Climbing from the car park we take the most popular and often busiest route to ascend Pen y Fan then onwards to Cribyn before descending to the gap lying below Fan y Big. From this point we start a gradual descent along an ancient pathway known locally as “the gap road.” We eventually leave this and head towards the Lower Neuadd Reservoir before again climbing steeply towards the escarpment edge of Gwaun Taf. We then follow this until we reach the Saddle below Corn Ddu then head north below it’s peak and return via a circular route over open mountain terrain heading to the Storey Arms and then onward to our cars at Pont ar Daf.
