This walk is shorter than the one advertised in the Trifold leaflet due to there being cows in one of the fields.
The walk starts in Melrose. We will walk alongside the banks of the Tweed until we reach Newstead. We will then walk past the site of the Timontium Fort towards Leaderfoot Viaduct. Before reaching the viaduct we will take the old railway line towards the Melrose bypass. After crossing the bypass we will head up through fields to Eildon village. From Eildon village we will walk down to Bowden and visit Bowden Kirk which was founded in 1128. From there it's a gradual ascent via St Cuthbert's Way to the saddle of the Eildons then back down to Melrose.
Please bring food and drink for 2 stops (we will have additional drink stops if the weather is hot). Sturdy boots and poles recommended. Although it was dry underfoot on the recces it may be muddy if we have heavy rain.
Circular walk, grade B+, moderate. Hiking boots and poles are recommended.
