John is leading this walk starting from the Belper Arms Newton Burgoland and taking in Gopsall Wharf, situated on the Ashby canal along the canal to Hills Bridge before heading to Shackerstone where Heritage Steam trains run regularly from the station. From there the walk picks up part of the Leicestershire round to Odstone, mentioned in the Doomsday book. Paths and cow tracks into Heather before heading back to the start at Newton Burgoland.
There will be a number of stiles along the route.

The walk takes in Bridleways, canal walking, a short section of road walking, fields and footpaths visiting 4 villages and hamlets on the way round.
