We are Coalville Ramblers - a friendly group based in the heart of the National Forest. We offer a programme of 3 walks each week, from 5 miles to 10 plus.

John is leading this walk starting from the Belper Arms Newton Burgoland and taking in Gopsall Wharf, situated on the Ashby canal along the canal to Hills Bridge before heading to Shackerstone where Heritage Steam trains run regularly from the station. From there the walk picks up part of the Leicestershire round to Odstone, mentioned in the Doomsday book. Paths and cow tracks into Heather before heading back to the start at Newton Burgoland.
There will be a number of stiles along the route.

The walk takes in Bridleways, canal walking, a short section of road walking, fields and footpaths visiting 4 villages and hamlets on the way round. Canal barges regularly navigate the Ashby canal and can generally be seen on most visits. Heather Hall, ranked the most expensive property in LE67 can be seen on the way back to Newton Burgoland
