Description: This LINEAR walk begins at the signposted Glenkinnon car park just across Ashiestiel Bridge (near Peel) and finishes at Hall Street in Galashiels. We walk alongside the Tweed on farm roads to the Yair bridge, then we join the Southern Upland Way before heading northwest to cross Hog Hill to reach Neidpath Hill, which affords excellent 360 degree views . After lunch, we contour round Mossilee Hill to climb Meigle Hill on the way back to Galashiels.
- On earlier walks this year, there were cattle in fields below Neidpath Hill. They appeared well used to walkers and caused no trouble.
- As this is a linear walk, it is necessary either to arrange for cars to be at each end of the walk, or to use the 62 bus service towards Peebles to reach the starting point. Ask for The Nest roundabout when buying tickets or using bus passes. The bus can be caught on the A72 at the junction of Island Street and Hall Street in Galashiels (just before B & Q) at 9.35, arriving at the stop just after The Nest roundabout at 9.50. The walk will begin at 10.00 am or, if the bus is delayed, once those arriving by bus have reached the starting point.
- On Saturday mornings, there is likely to be ample parking close to the bus stop, on Roxburgh Street, Union Street and Hall Street.
- Boots are required, and poles/sticks are recommended.
