This 9.3 mile circular walk has a bit of everything, open countryside, lovely views, woodland and 🚂 steam trains! We set off alongside Pickering Beck, pass Newbridge signal box and follow the path gently uphill across open farmland and through woods. Picking up the Tabular Hills path at Farwath Hill Top, we follow the road down towards Farwath crossing before taking a narrow path through woodland, emerging onto forest tracks alongside the railway line. We'll stop for lunch here and with a bit of luck, we might see a steam train passing by. Continuing on, we cross the railway line, walk though the Pickering Beck restoration project, Little Park Wood and Lowther Wood, and past some old quarries, eventually arriving back in Pickering.
🪧 Meet by the Scout hut at the railway station car park. Note the parking here is for rail users only, and it is a 10–15 minute walk from the main car parks in the town, so please allow enough time to get to the meeting point by 10am
🅿️ Pay and display car parks at Eastgate (YO18 7JD) or Vivis Lane (YO18 8DL), cost £6 for 6 hours
🚻 There are toilets at the Eastgate car park and on The Ropery in the town centre
