Overview

A surprisingly rural feeling walk through a corridor of green spaces threading through outer London suburbia taking in sections of the Hillingdon Trail and the Dog Rose Ramble. Leaving Ruislip Gardens station, we follow the Yeading Brook around Northolt airport to Ickenham Marshes, under the A40, through Gutteridge Wood and Ten Acres Wood, then across fields and parkland down to the Grand Union Canal where we take a break at the Willow Tree Marina for refreshments at the Lock & Quay pub.

After the marina, we follow the canal northwards to Northala Hills for panoramic views of West London (cafe, toilets). From there, it is a 30 minute walk to Northolt station passing the 13th century St Marys church en route.

Largely flat. A few low stiles. Muddy if wet. Several drop-out points. Bring a picnic lunch.

Both stations are the Central Line, zone 5 Oyster card.
