This is a picturesque walk along both sides of the valley from Rawtenstall to Cowpe. We ascend to Whinberry Naze then make our way along the hill top to the village of Cowpe. We then descend into Water foot before a steep climb back up out of the valley to enjoy great views from the summit, making our way gradually back to Marl Pits at the start.
There are two fairly steep and long ascents. Despite the time of year, moorland can be wet and muddy so appropriate clothing and footwear is advised. There are a number of stiles, some in poor repair.
Bring a packed lunch and a drink - as it will be high summer, sunscreen might be recommended.
Well-behaved dogs on a lead only as this is sensitive moorland for ground-resting birds.
