This village on the eastern edge of the Lake District is well situated for walking the surrounding hills and fells. With coach parking available, and numerous refreshment establishments, this is the ideal place to go walking. Maybe you will head for the Howgill Fells, or, for easier walks, follow the River Rawthey.
Three walks will be available with details circulated on the coach. They will range from easy to strenuous depending on the walk selected.
A Walk - Dave White
B Walk - Janet Loines - A circular walk of approximatly 8.5 miles with 1,440ft of ascent. From Sedbergh we head for the summit of Winder (1,551ft) then descending to the Dales Way National Trail under the Lune Viaduct, and along the River Lune to Lincoin Bridge. Then along the River Rawthy and through the grounds of Sedbergh School back to Sedbergh.
C Walk - Dave Eccles - 6 to 6.5 miles with 600ft of ascent. Heading Northeast from Sedbergh passing a motte baily and Castlehaw along good paths over open fields towards Hollin Hill. A short walk along a country lane before turning towards the banks of the River Rawthey, also part of the Dales Way for our return journey. Before we leave the Dales Way we can visit the Pepper Pot on the Akay Estate. A few stiles, gates, and footbridges, all in good condition.
