NOTE: This walk is for pre-booked group members of East Radnor Walking Holiday only.
Our second walk takes us West of Newport to the dramatic scenery of Strumble Head with its iconic lighthouse and the opportunity of seal watching. From the car park we take an inland route with sea views, arriving at Penrhyn on the coast in time for coffee. We then follow the coast path towards Strumble Head and Carreg Onnen Bay for lunch. The coastal path then turns southward and becomes trickier, with plenty of ups and downs and more dramatic scenery before returning to the car park.
Short walkers should arrange between themselves to leave a car or cars at the car park at Strumble Head Lighthouse (SM 8945 4118; w3w ironic.stepping.dynamics; SA64 0JL), leaving a short drive back to the start point. This will provide a walk just under 4 miles, with a 500 ft climb.
The coastal path is narrow in places with steep cliff drops. Please take care and watch your footing, many parts of the path are rocky and stony, particularly on the second half of the walk. It can also be quite marshy so walking boots are strongly advised.
Sorry but no loos, no swims and no ice creams on this one - it's wild clifftops all the way, but we'll be going at a leisurely holiday pace.
The phone signal in the whole area is extremely poor so please make sure you arrive on time for walks as you probably won't be able to contact us to wait for you.
