We start and finish at the Amphitheatre at Knowle, progress to Woodlands our first cottage orné, wind down following a stream to the Connaught Gardens for a reading from Elizabeth Barrett Browning with coffee. Descend Jacob’s Ladder, follow the walkway to the beach. Then follows an edited explore of the town with its inspiration for writers, cricketers and architects largely of the 18th and nineteenth centuries, stroll the Coburg Terrace and Blackmore Gardens to the Esplanade making for the South West Coast Path noticing many of the 64 blue plaques which make Sidmouth significantly noteworthy. Crossing the Sid we mount the steps towards the Observatory pausing to admire the views, find paths through the beech woods, descend to The Byes and return to The Knowle.
Though including town and coast paths, parks and gardens this walk has pavement in parts through the town.
It is possible to travel by bus from Exeter Bus Station on the 9 or 9A, descend at Woodlands Hotel.
If you would like to join this walk, please notify the leaders, preferably by email, so that they can inform you of any late changes to arrangements.
