Three Shires Head and The Roaches - approx 13 miles/21kms with 2650ft/807m of ascent (OS app and Garmin) - moderate/strenuous.
Meet at Clough House CP for 9.30am. Parking is free but there are no toilets.
From the car park, the route takes us up Cumberland Brook and round to Three Shires Head before following a section of the Dane Valley Way at the foot of Turn Edge. We make our way towards the southern end of the Roaches passing through Black Brook Nature Reserve where there are some great rock formations. The route continues over moorland before meeting the main Roaches path.
We continue along The Roaches ridge to the trig point at 505m before going down through Gradbach Wood to the mill before climbing again for the final section of the walk.
This is a mostly moderate walk using a mixture of paths, tracks, lanes and bridleways with a couple of strenuous uphill sections and some moorland walking. Views (hopefully) are expansive. As ever, there are some muddy and boggy sections, so poles are advised.
