A walk to burn off some of the excesses of a long weekend in the beautiful Kent countryside amid an eccentric kaleidoscope of views, open fields, woodland, village greens, a large reservoir, historic houses, gardens and a great pub. And also hills!
We will start from the National Trust Car Park at Toys Hill and set the tone for the walk by visiting the viewpoint and poignant memorial at Weardale before setting out via Scord's Wood for Emmett's Garden, where we will pass the various gardens, though fleet footed NT members in the group may dive into them for a closer look, before climbing to Ide Hill where we will have our snack break on the Common.
Our route takes us along the Greensand Ridge and then we drop down to Sevenoaks Weald via Wickhurst Manor for our picnic lunch on the Green: refreshments are available at the excellent (CAMRA Good Pub Guide 2025) Windmill pub.
After lunch we will descend to Bore Place and the Bough Beech Reservoir causeway, before climbing again via the Tudor Henden Manor to Toys Hill and our finishing point.
While there are no toilet facilities available at Toys Hill, NT members can use those at Emmett's Garden, and there are toilets at Ide Hill.
Check our website (www.SevenoaksRamblers.org.uk) for changes, and the weather forecast, before setting out for the walk.
We encourage carsharing wherever possible. If you require a lift please contact the leader and I will try to link you with someone.
While the walk is rated moderate there is a total ascent of 800ft and some steep hills, so a reasonable level of fitness is required.
