This flat almost mud-free walk follows the River Wandle from its source at Wandle Park to where it joins the Thames near Wandsworth. In its day, the Wandle was regarded as the hardest working river in London, owing to the number of mills producing a variety of products including dye, paper, linseed. We pass through a number of green spaces including Watermeads Nature Reserve, Morden Hall Park, Wandle Meadow National Park, King George’s Park eventually arriving at The Causeway where the river joins the Thames.
Lunch will be at Morden Hall Park where there are cafés and benches. Please bring a picnic lunch in case the cafés are busy. Short drink/tea/toilet stops in morning and afternoon.
No trams from East Croydon to Wandle Park due to engineering works. Suggest travelling via Wimbledon or Mitcham Junction and catch the tram to Wandle Park (destination Reeves Corner).
Many potential drop out points (trams/buses/trains) along the route including Colliers Wood (Northern Line) or Earlsfield (train).
