An off-piste summer walk in the less walked eastern part of Wiltshire. Starts at Burbage and then on to Wulfhall (yes, that one), one of the many properties owned by the Seymour family in the 16thC. Allegedly, Harry Met Jane there (thereby securing Anne’s grizzly end). As usual with WWR there is nothing left (remember the castle, lake, river…)! On along the Kennet & Avon Canal to Crofton Pumping Station and then to the very attractive village of Great Bedwyn (with an utterly bonkers Post Office!). A fine flint medieval church that contains the rather over-the top tomb of Sir John Seymour, the above mentioned Jane’s father. Back skirting the southern edge of Savernake Forest and then the nicely landscaped estate of Tottenham Park. The latter was also a Seymour estate, one they moved to in the mid-16thC when Wulfhall proved too small for them (life can be so hard). Back to Burbage. An easy walk with no real hills but some modest slopes. Two stops for coffee (about 11.30) and lunch (about 12.45).
