We support nine Ramblers Groups in Hertfordshire, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey and help protect our local footpaths and countryside for everyone to enjoy.
Join us for a walk in the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside!
The Hertfordshire & North London Walks Fest takes place this year in Digswell, Welwyn on Saturday 12th October.
There will be several group walks of various distances to choose from, led by experienced walk leaders from the different Ramblers Groups across our Area.
Walks will start at different times throughout the morning and afternoon.
See ‘Upcoming walks’ for further details of each walk as they are announced.
After the walks, there is the chance to meet other walkers for refreshments and conversation at Digswell Village Hall (opposite Welwyn North station) where we will enjoy a cream tea at 4pm.
It’s a great opportunity to walk and chat with members from different Ramblers Groups and with new people.

Accessible by train via Welwyn North station (London King's Cross - Cambridge Great Northern route) and local bus services. If driving, there are two car parks at the station: a larger car park off Station Road to the west of the railway and a smaller car park in front of the station building on Harmer Green Lane.
Please car-share or use public transport if possible.
All are welcome, though some walks may be unsuitable for young children due to distance - please check the individual listing for each walk to see if it is family-friendly. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or person with equivalent responsibility for the entire walk.
Walks are graded Easy, Leisurely, Moderate or Strenuous in increasing order of difficulty. Please read the walk description to check it is within your abilities and contact us if you are unsure.
Free for everyone to attend; no booking required.
Toilets available at the Hall from 4pm.
Bring a packed lunch / snacks and drinks and appropriate clothing for the conditions.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Digswell is at the centre of some of the best walking in Hertfordshire. Rising up the gentle slopes of the Mimram Valley, the village lies to the north of Welwyn Garden City. Footpaths, bridleways and quiet lanes wind through the surrounding landscape of arable fields, ancient woods, charming hamlets and historic parkland. Tewin, Woolmer Green, Burnham Green, Mardley Heath, Danesbury and Panshanger Park are close by.
The Digswell Viaduct, designed by William Cubitt and opened in 1850, is a fine sight. Some 40 brick arches tower 30 metres above ground level at points, forming an imposing structure. The Viaduct carries the East Coast Main Line over the River Mimram, a beautiful chalk stream.
The ancient village of Digswell, the name perhaps derived from Deacon’s Well, included the parish church of St John, built in the 12th century, and the 19th-century mansion of Digswell House – both transferred within the bounds of Welwyn Garden City in 1921. The modern Digswell is centred on the railway station of Welwyn North. A coffee shop is located at the station, with a convenience store opposite, and a pub around the corner on the other side of the railway.
Overall, you’ll find fine walking and plenty to see and explore.
