Overview

This is a change from the walk listed in the trifold leaflet due to forestry work.

This walk follows tracks and paths from Abbey St Bathans past The Retreat and on to Elba where we cross the Whiteadder. The route then goes up to Edin Hall Broch before climbing further to the site of the Cockburn Law Hill fort. The descent is across fields to a road and then following forest and field tracks, eventually joining the Southern Upland Way back to the start point.

There are stiles to climb and it is uneven underfoot with trip hazards in several places. There is also the possibility of cattle (but as there is a choice of fields to cross, it was possible to avoid them on the recce).

Drinks & snacks for 2 stops.

Murray has offered to lead anyone wanting a shorter walk back to the start on a more direct route involving some  road walking.

Car sharing from Duns is possible.
