The walk starts in Castle Kennedy Gardens, taking us through the woodland alongside lakes and then out onto very quiet lanes. We then find our way onto the Mull of Galloway Trail, following the coastline with views over Loch Ryan and opportunities of spotting many seabirds, waders and the odd seal. We plan to stop for packed lunch at an identified spot on the coastline. As we enter Stranraer we then turn inland still following the Mull of Galloway trail through some of the outskirts before entering more woodland and making a steady climb up to take the Southern Upland Way back to Castle Kennedy Gardens. There is a tearoom in the Gardens for potential after walk sustenance.
Additional notes: Boots recommended. We may encounter cattle at one point but there is an easy alternative to avoid them if necessary. Expect muddy conditions in the latter woodland section
The coastline section has some slippery areas which we should try to avoid. We will need to cross some busy roads with the usual need for caution.
This walk is part of our Away Weekend Event, and is fully subscribed by the Event attendees.
Circular walk, grade B. Pace/effort: Mostly fairly easy with a steady lengthy climb towards the end.
