Overview

Meet outside Barham Village Hall. Please park considerately on the road – the car park is for users of the Hall and Shop and Bowls Club.

The Royal Kentish Camino is a new pilgrimage route from Canterbury to Folkestone, visiting places associated with some of the early Christian pioneers who founded churches in Kent. Today’s route is the second of three parts and takes us from Barham to Lyminge following parts of the Elham Valley Way. There are some hills.

This is a linear walk so we will use public transport in one direction – the number 17 bus. There are two options: park in Lyminge and catch the bus to Barham at 09.03 OR return to Barham from Lyminge after the walk at 14.43 or 16.13.

We will have a lunch stop in Elham where there are several pubs and a tea room, or bring your own food and drink for a picnic.

Estimated finish time is around 14.30 but we may like to spend some time in Lyminge visiting the Church of St Mary and St Ethelburga which was founded by Queen Bertha’s daughter, Ethelburga in the early 630s AD.
