This final walk completes Section 14 and 15 of the Capital Ring. Starting from Hackney Wick Overground Station, this surprisingly green walk follows a short way along the River Lee Navigation, passing Old Ford Locks to then rise up onto 'The Greenway' straight track passing the former Olympic Park and the old Abbey Mills Pumping Station, that looks rather like an oriental palace. Very good views all round from this raised walkway. An early coffee stop will be made at the View Tube Cafe with toilet available. Later, we turn south off The Greenway to walk through Beckton District Park where we will eat our picnic lunch. This park links into New Beckton Park soon reaching the new developments around the Royal Albert Dock waterfront, with views across to City Airport. A short toilet stop will be available with possible cafe nearby. Then we continue around the modern dock area, close to the Thames, crossing 2 sets of locks in the most easterly part of The Capital Ring. The final part links with The Thames Path riverfront giving splendid views across the river to Woolwich. On reaching the foot tunnel we walk down steps (lifts available both ends) under the Thames to rise up steps to finish at the Capital Ring signpost on the Woolwich riverfront (where we started section 1). Hopefully, many of us will wish to celebrate together with drinks at the nearby cafe before returning from Woolwich station, a short distance away.
