This is the second section of the London to Brighton long distance trail. Starting from Kingwood station with a walk through the Kingswood estate, the route soon crosses attractive heathland to reach the village of Headley, which will be the lunch stop (please bring a picnic; pub for drinks/toilets only). Thereafter the route continues through picturesque rolling hills and woods, with two significant ascents, to reach Juniper Top and then the summit of Box Hill, which offers views over Surrey and Sussex to the South Downs. There will be a stop here for toilets and refreshments. The route down Box Hill is steep, with a lot of steps, and there is then a short walk to Box Hill & Westhumble station. The route is generally on good tracks but especially after rain it could be muddy or slippery in places (bring a pole if you use one).
Recommended train: London Bridge 9.40 (destination Tattenham Corner), East Croydon 9.58, Kingswood 10.31. Return trains from Box Hill & Westhumble go to Waterloo or Victoria via Clapham Junction.
