Charing walk

This is an 11-mile walk from Charing that follows part of the North Downs Way, to head to higher ground, to give great views over the Weald of Kent.

In the early stages we make our way through the village, to head across the point to point racecourse at The Gallops, before joining the above mentioned long distance footpath. We then follow the NDW, which is a byway on this stretch, until we join a track approximately 500 yards past Cobham Farm, to then start our ascent northwards in the direction of Warren Street.

We meander through to Stalisfield Green, where the Plough is an option for a drinks refuel, although there is an alternative welcoming pub later during this walk, which is another favourite of the walk leader. Continuing on, we pass Stalisfield church, then head south for about a mile through Codling Wood and then Hurst Wood to reach Stalisfield Road, which can be followed to the Bowl Inn.

We continue to descend, passing the windmill, to re-join the NDW, as we make our way back to the starting point.

All in all, this is a great little hike, however with approximately 1100 foot of ascent, it falls in the moderate grading, but should be well within the capabilities of the regular walker.

Usual snack/water breaks en route, pub for drinks only, although if anyone fancies cheesy chips, then the drinks only rule can be broken!
