"Clunton and Clunbury,
Clungunford and Clun,
Are the quietest places
Under the sun.
In valleys of springs of rivers,
By Ony and Teme and Clun,
The country for easy livers,
The quietest under the sun"
Come and explore the Clun Valley - a quiet valley in the SW of the county (as described by Housman) - with amazing views and buzzards swooping, it really is a hidden gem!
We'll be heading along the Shropshire Way from Clun to Whitcott Keysett and on to Bryndrinog, before ascending on to Offa's Dyke Path.
This path follows a well-preserved section of Offa's Dyke, the incredible 8th century earthwork, cresting on to Llanfair Hill. We'll then descend via Jack Mytton Way to complete a 10 mile circuit. There are a series of sustained climbs, but we will ensure that these are taken at a suitable pace.
We'll then return to Clun, where we'll explore the impressive remains of Clun Castle, before heading for a bit of refreshment at The Sun Inn.
Mixture of quiet lane walking and hill paths/bridleway/footpaths. Can be muddy this time of year.
This is a "Countryfile Ramble" walk, raising funds for Children in Need (donations welcome).
Car sharing available - please contact walk leader for details.
