The main attraction bringing people to the Farndale valley at this time of year is the Daffodil Walk following the River Dove from Low Mill to Church Houses. The B group is saving this for the end of their walk. We begin at Low Mill and ascend, very gradually, passing by Horn End Farm and the ruin of High Barn at West Gill Beck to West Gill Head This path is quite rocky but clear to follow. Shortly after reaching this high point, we descend, beautiful views all around, to Monket House, passing Dickon Howe and Monket House Crags. The path down is rather loose shingle and we need to go carefully, but there is no need for speed on this walk. When we reach the road, we walk down a grassy path to High Mill, where we may visit the Daffy Café, before joining the Daffodil trail back to Low Mill.
We leave Sheffield by coach from the top of Howard Street at 8a.m. to reach Low Mill around 10.15a.m. There are toilets and refreshments at the start of the walk. The coach will wait for us at Low MIll. The time we arrive back at the coach will depend upon the weather and the speed at which we walk. If we arrive very early the coach will take us straight to Pickering before returning to Gillamoor to pick up the A group and bring them to join us. If we are later back, the coach make take us to Gillamoor to wait there for the A party before taking us all to Pickering. We will leave Pickering at 6p.m. to arrive back in Sheffield at around 8p.m.
