An easy walk near Errwood Reservoir and over Goyt’s Moss. Some road walking.
5.5 miles. Less than 400 feet of ascent. Easy except for an initial steep ascent, and some difficult underfoot conditions. 10 a.m. start. Meet at lower end of Street Car Park, SK 0135 7564, northwest corner of Errwood Reservoir. The nearest post code, SK17 6GJ, is for the sailing club, across the dam from our meeting point. We head east across Errwood Reservoir dam, ascend steeply up Goyt’s Lane for a short while, then head south along footpaths to cross Wildmoorstone Brook, and head further south across Goyt’s Moss. It can be quite boggy underfoot across the moss, even in dry conditions. We wind our way toward Goytsclough Quarry, then return to the start using footpaths running parallel to the road. Bring poles if you normally use them, for the boggy area, and as usual wear sturdy hiking boots. Bring coffee and a snack. There are nesting birds on the moss, and there could be sheep. Well behaved dogs are welcome, but must be on leads at all times. Any queries, phone Gillian 07833142563
