Train-based walk

Leader: Mark F, joining train at Stockport

Meet Point: Near the ticket barriers, or on the platform, at Piccadilly station. Alternatively, meet the group on the train or at the station in Furness Vale. Drivers please allow time to find parking in the area and walk to the station, as there is no station car park here.

Transport to Walk Start: 09:51 train from Manchester Piccadilly (final destination Buxton).

Suggested Ticket: Off-Peak Day Return to Furness Vale £9.90.

Walk Start: Furness Vale railway station at 10:30.

Waypoints: Gowhole, Shedyard Clough, Overhill Road, New Allotments, TV Station Receiver, Moor Lodge, Beard Hall Farm, Goyt Way, Peak Forest Canal.

Return Services: x:07/08 until 16:08, then x:07/08 & x:35/36 until 19:36. Last trains at 20:35, 21:35, 22:35, 23:19.

Extra: No toilets at walk start or en routeOptional pub visit at the end of the walk.

The walk passes through cloughs, over moorland and along lanes. Some paths are flanked by nettles and brambles so be aware if you decide to wear shorts.

This is a very undulating walk with some long ascents. Some paths are wet and muddy and boots are a must.

A moderate level of fitness is required for this walk.
