From Hebden Bridge station, the route goes up through Crow Nest Wood and Hebble End to join the Pennine Bridleway. We follow the bridleway around Stoodley Pike but we don’t climb up to the monument. We descend through the pleasant hamlets of Mankinholes and Lumbutts to join the Rochdale Canal. We then follow the towpath into Todmorden, where we can take the train back to Manchester.
Terrain includes woodland paths, moorland tracks, field paths and canal towpath.
Most of the walk is undulating or level but there is a short steep uphill section at the beginning, after which the ascent is very gradual. The descent from Lumbutts is steep in places.
There are toilets and refreshments at the beginning and end, and we pass a pub at about two thirds of the way along.
