Overview

A circular walk from Newhey up to and around the Ogden Reservoir and valley. The walk commences from Newhey Metro towards 5 United Utility Reservoirs and encircles 3 of these taking in some wonderful views over Greater Manchester.

Elevation Gain is around 300m on this walk. There are no stiles on this walk. The outward and inward route has some pavement walking, before reaching the first Reservoir we then branch off onto well maintained  paths which continue on reaching the Reservoir itself. Toilets are available after approximately 1.1/2 miles into the walk and also again on the return leg. There is one quite steep but short uphill section to contend with but it contains well maintained steps. There are no refreshment facilities on this walk although as we leave Newhey Metro there is a convenience store where you can obtain a cup of coffee, therefore bring your lunch.

Taking into account there is a short climb a stick or sticks are recommended

Newhey Metrolink Stop, Huddersfield Road. NB do not get the Shaw and Crompton tram which terminates at Shaw. . The tram to board is marked ROCHDALE via OLDHAM. There is Metro no parking space for those arriving by car at the tram stop itself, however, some street parking is allowed.
