This is the perfect introduction to our five Mountain Fitness walk series — a challenging yet rewarding journey designed to boost stamina and endurance. Expect steep ascents, fast-paced walking, and breathtaking views as we tackle the hills!
We’ll follow a stunning circular route from Haslemere into the South Downs National Park, culminating in the spectacular panorama from Black Down, the highest hill in Sussex. Even though this is the gentlest walk in the series, don’t be fooled — it still packs a punch, with climbs over Stanley Common, Telegraph Hill, and more, adding up to around 688m of elevation gain.
Along the way, we’ll pass through ancient woodlands, open heathland, and charming countryside trails, soaking up the ever-changing scenery. Keep an eye out for red kites soaring overhead, and if the weather’s on our side, expect sweeping views across the Weald to the North Downs and beyond.
🔹 What to Bring: A packed lunch, plenty of water, and sturdy walking shoes.
🍺 Pub Stop: Midway break for drinks only. Optional post-walk pub stop for those wanting to celebrate with a well-earned meal or drink.
As with all of our strenuous walks, this isn't recommended as your first walk with us. But if you're a regular member looking to push your limits and take on longer, steeper, and faster hikes, this is an excellent place to start.
