I will meet the group at Dalmellington for a 10.00 departure. Please let me know if you are travelling direct to Dalmellington.
A circular route including the Dalcairnie Linn and the Ness Glen.
10.25 miles, 1265ft ascent. Grade C+/B. 5 hours approximately duration.
After crossing the A713, a footpath is followed to the B741, which is taken for half a mile to the junction of the C class road to Dalcairnie Linn. We take this quiet road for about one and a half miles to reach the impressive waterfall. From here we take farm tracks through Craigengillan estate to arrive at the Ness Glen, a very spectacular gorge. We follow a foot path alongside the river which terminates at the Loch Doon Dam. Lunch will be taken by Loch Doon. We return by a higher level footpath through woodlands above Ness Glen, then take farm tracks and footpaths to return to our car park.
Due diligence should be taken while crossing the A713 and following the other public roads. The path through the Ness Glen needs to be taken with great care as the path in places can be rough, and wet, and is next to the fast flowing Doon.
There is a possibility that we will meet ponies but they all previously have been friendly.
Stout boots, gaiters and poles are recommended.
