We are the City of Birmingham Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
This is a 5 mile linear walk on easy, firm surfaces. The route follows the canal from Selly Oak, across the new viaduct and on to the University Vale site. It then explores the Vale with its ponds and wildlife habitats before continuing to the main campus, to view the architect and buildings. We stop for picnic lunch/ drink/toilets at the Barber Institute before getting up close to “Old Jo”, and the “Red Brick” buildings. The route leaves the campus via the Main gate and swimming pool, from which it is half a mile to the new Dental school and its landscaped gardens. The walk finishes on the Pershore Road at the Selly Park Tavern. Please note the university allows us to walk around the campus but not to enter buildings without permission.

JOINING INSTRUCTIONS: Meet at 11.00 am in Selly Oak outside the carer hub of Sense Touch Base Pears, 750 Bristol Road, Birmingham, B29 6NA. From the city Centre- Buses 63 and 61 Bus Stop NS3 outside New Street Station. It is approximately 25 minutes journey. Alight at Sense Touch Base Pears. The stop is just after Selly Oak station car park and before the outer circle. Other routes Bus No. 76 alight at Sense Touch Base Pears or No.11 nearby in Selly Oak. Train - New Street to Selly Oak, exit to Heeley Road and walk towards Bristol Road turn left to Sense Touch Base Pears. Please note there is not a train option return from the walk finish.
