The trees will be starting their new leaves and we are hoping that bluebells and other plants will be in flower. There are plenty of panoramic views including from the Birley Stone. There will be lots of lambs to distract us. The route is based on a Clarion Ramblers walk from 1918.
Catch the 09:35 Huddersfield train to Chapeltown. Use your bus pass if you have one for a 50% discount. There are a number of buses to town or the Hillsborough interchange from Wadsley bridge.
Route: High Green, Westwood Country Park, Wortley (lunch and a cafe if wanted), Finkle Street, Greno Wood, Whalejaw Hill, Birley Edge, Wadsley Bridge.
We start with some gentle ascents for the first half of the walk. After that it basically down hill but with a couple of climbs.
Very much a moderate walk mainly on good surfaces but also with woodland tracks with tree roots. About 5 stiles but none especially difficult. We cross a couple of busy roads and there is a short stretch along a road where we must walk single file.
No dogs please.
