A popular walk from Hexham to our very own Iron Age fort!
The first part of the walk follows the Tyne Trail to Warden past Water's Meet (where the South Tyne is joined by the North Tyne to form the River Tyne). After crossing the bridge at Warden, we follow a path along the railway line for a short distance before climbing steadily through fields and woods to Warden Hill. The earthwork remains of an Iron Age fort are clearly visible, and we should be able to enjoy panoramic views if the weather is clear.
We descend Warden Hill through the hamlet of Higher Warden where there will hopefully be snowdrops in bloom, and then follow a quiet lane past Warden parish church to Bridge End. From there, we return to Tyne Green Country Park via Cycle Route 72 and a footpath skirting Hexham golf course to Spital Lane.
Refreshments are available in Cafe Enna at the end of the walk.
Advance booking is required for this walk. To reserve your place, please e-mail the walk leader, Sue, through the contact box above - and remember to include your mobile number in the e-mail.
